I’m turning 40 this year and I’ve started to notice the laugh lines around my eyes are becoming a permanent part of my face – they’re no longer just a passing crinkle when I laugh, and it’s really starting to bother me.
So I looked into what I could do and found the most cutting-edge treatment today called Dermapen Skin Resurfacing. It treats all kinds of textural issues, dealing with pores, acne scars, wrinkles, and even tightening sagging skin. Dermapen is an advanced form of a technique called meso-needling. A 2009 study of micro-needling revealed that almost 100% of participants reported a noticeable difference and vast improvement in the appearance of their acne scars. Not a bad recommendation!
It works via a tool, like a small roller, which makes teeny-tiny micropunctures in the skin. This stimulates a healing response which produces collagen and elastin – two of the key building blocks of our skin. In the process of healing the micropunctures, the skin eradicates fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, improving the overall quality of the skin.
It sounded exciting – and a little bit scary. As an early birthday present, I decided to treat myself to a treatment, but I needed to make sure it was in a safe and reputable clinic. Clear Skincare Clinics have more than 20 years’ experience and they are renowned for their customer care. My therapist Ghena could sense I was a little nervous when I arrived and took the time to put me at my ease, explaining what would be involved. She told me that it would be relatively painless, that I would hear a slight buzz and feel a slight stinging sensation and it might feel quite hot for a short time afterwards.
That sounded not nearly as bad as I had feared, so I quickly began to relax as Ghena cleansed and prepped my skin using soothing strokes. At this point, she suggested I should just relax and take advantage of the next 15 minutes of peace without my noisy children around. I was quite surprised to hear that the treatment would be done so quickly.
As Ghena worked the Dermapen around my face, I felt a mild scratching sensation in the area she was working on. I was actually pleasantly surprised at how painless it actually was! The only area that I noticed slightly more sensitivity was my upper lip, but this didn’t last long. The treatment was done in no time at all. To finish, Ghena wiped my skin with an irrigation solution which felt warm and quite relaxing.
She then took me through what I would feel after the treatment: instant tightness and dryness – almost like a sunburn, and I was told not to go out in the sun for at least 24 hours. She also recommended not touching my skin for the next 12 hours, so the micro channels could close.
When I looked in the mirror, I was pleased to see that I was hardly red at all – I had very slight redness around my upper lip and above my chin and that was it! My skin felt tight and a little dry and there was a slight stinging sensation which seemed to go about 2 hours after the treatment.
I was told that to get the best results I should follow their after-care plan: For the first 12 hours my skin was to stay untouched. The following morning and night I cleansed with Clear Skincare Gel Cleanser and applied the Clear Skincare PIH Cream. Then on days 2-4 I cleansed, applied Clear Skincare Copper Peptide Serum and finished with the PIH Cream morning and night.
Each day I looked eagerly for changes. And each day I saw small but increasingly noticeable changes. By day four, my smile lines and crows feet were not as prominent. And I noticed my skin felt a lot smoother and softer. About a week after the treatment my skin was almost glowing.
I was excited to think that this was just the beginning. A course of 3-4 treatments, a month apart, is generally recommended for the best results. Based on the results I’ve had after just one treatment, I’m inspired to sign up to more treatments and have booked to go back in a month’s time.
